Plan your own website or app

Plan the work around a website or app before choosing hosting or services. This is preparation for the upcoming downloadable product; there is nothing to install yet.

What you will learn

You will know what content, services, testing, and people your project needs before launch.

Describe the journey

Name the people who will use the project and the action they should complete. Reading articles, browsing a portfolio, buying a product, and using an app need different supporting features. Write the goal in plain language, then select the features that support it.

Prepare your own content

Collect the pages, images, products, and brand material you will need. Plan to replace example content and review each supported language. Check the result on phones and larger screens. Example content gives you a starting point, but it is not a finished description of your business.

Separate hosting from outside services

Hosting runs the application; a domain provides its address. A developer will need to arrange the application, database, file storage, secure connections, and backups. Email needs a sending service; selling needs a payment provider; print-on-demand needs a fulfillment provider. Those services have their own accounts, setup, and possible fees.

Assign checks and responsibility

Before inviting visitors, test navigation, forms, account access, email delivery, and any checkout journey. Review privacy information and accessibility for your own content and services. Decide who will perform technical setup, review changes, and maintain the project. A coding agent can help implement work, but someone still needs to review and test it.

Put it into practice

Keep a brief with the goal, content to prepare, services to arrange, checks to run, and a named person responsible for ongoing care. This is a planning checklist, not an installation procedure.
